Ambiance
- If you thought you could not get away from the crowds on Oahu,
think again. This is the perfect resort for what I call wave
watching. I can sit for hours by the pool and look out
into the lagoon watching the large crashing waves. When Hollywood
comes to town to film, this is the place they do it because of the
dramatic scenery. I have been here more than once when either film
crews or national events have taken place. And yes, I have seen
the turtles in the bay. Thus the name!
Beach
- The beach is nice and situated on the opposite side of
the resort for swimming. I would say the beach is not the claim
to fame at this resort but it makes up in many other ways. There
are some great beaches just minutes away and of course you can't
forget about Waikiki Beach on the other side of the island.
Charges
(extra) - There is a daily facility fee to use all the
activities and parking but normally if booked through a travel professional,
the price already includes those. Spa treatments would be extra.
Distances
-On the north shore of Oahu. This is where the real surfers
hang out.
Entertainment
on Property - The resort holds a Luau every week. You are
also close to the world famous Polynesian Cultural Center.
Fitness
Area - A nice facility with cardiovascular equipment and
weight machines.
Food
- The are 5 restaurants and bars to chose from. The Palm
Terrace features a new display kitchen where you can watch the chefs
prepare their delights. The view is excellent.
Getting
Around - Rental car is the norm.
Internet
Access -Wi Fi access from the rooms.
Jackets
and Ties - Keep them at home! This is Hawaii. I bet you
come home with some new Island Wear so pack light.
Kids
- This is a great family resort with the villas and cottages
and all of the things you can see and do.
Lighting
-The resort is well laid out and well lit at night.
Medical
Services -On call medical services.
Negatives
-You are on the north shore of the Island so you are not
close to major shopping and restaurants but hey, you stay here to
get away from the crowds.
Nightlife
- I would say the nightlife is very low key and a lot of
locals hang outs. Not the hustle bustle of Waikiki Beach.
Opportunities
-This is a perfect place for a destination wedding. The
wedding pavilion and views will make for a wedding you will never
forget. It makes it easier for the guys to remember their anniversary.
Pool
- The pool itself is not the large frew frew pool that
I prefer but I have yet to have been at any other pool in the world
that you can sit there and watch the waves crashing in the cove
like this one. There is a reason why Hollywood films here. Don't
be surprised if you find yourself in the background of a TV show!
Protection
- In room safe at no additional charge .
Recreation
- Where do I begin! Tennis, swimming, hiking, horseback
riding, golf, surfing and that is just at the resort. You have all
of the other activities that Oahu has to offer!
Rooms
-If you are expecting brand new fancy rooms, forget-a-bout-it!
The resort has been here a while and the reason why they can't do
any major structural changes, is it sits on sacred land that is
very important to the Hawaiian culture. But they have done an excellent
job over the years upgrading and refurbishing.
Shopping
- Small gift shops and boutique on the property.
Terrain
-Easy to get around and oh, did I mention the views???.
Tipping-Always
try and take care of those that are going the extra mile to make
your stay more enjoyable.
Updates-The
open kitchen at the Palm Terrace is new!
View-OK,
let's review. Hollywood films here, dramatic waves, Island cove,
perfect setting for weddings. Get the drift?
Weather-The
temperature ranges from 75-85 all year. December through February
gets more rain. The mountains tend to get more sprinkles.
WOW
Factor-The dramatic cove and scenery, hands down.
X-Y-Z-This
has to be one of the better values in Oahu and for those who do
not want the crowds, this is it.
