QUIKSILVER IN MEMORY OF EDDIE AIKAU

The Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau is a specialty, one-day, big wave event held annually at Waimea Bay in memory of one of Hawaii's legendary big wave riders and the first Waimea Bay lifeguard, Eddie Aikau. Waves must reach a minimum of 20 feet for this event to be held. A lengthy holding period is set aside for this competition which requires just one day to run to completion. When the event does get underway, it is a magnificent sight, as waves as high as mountains storm through Waimea Bay. The winner receives $55,000.
TURTLE BAY CHAMPIONSHIP

Official PGA Champions Tour Full-Field Event (81 professionals). January 23-29, 2006, will be the first full-field Champions Tour event of the year. The site: The Palmer Course, par-72 (36-36), 7,088 yards, Turtle Bay Resort, North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii. Tickets will be available through ticketmaster.com.
21ST ANNUAL ALA WAI CHALLENGE

A unique Hawaiian cultural experience awaits you at the Ala Wai Challenge. This popular annual event includes Outrigger canoe racing and ancient Hawaiian land sport games (called Makahiki). The event is free to visitors, and is located at the Ala Wai Neighborhood Park. The park is located across the Ala Wai Canal from Waikiki. Enjoy a morning of competitive canoe racing, while learning and experiencing traditional Makahiki games. There are also a variety of crafters, food booths, and family activities. Event starts at 8:00 am and ends at 12:30 pm.

PRO BOWL BLOCK PARTY

PRO BOWL CELEBRITY GOLF CLASSIC

The National Football League will conduct its annual Pro Bowl Celebrity Golf Classic on at Hawaii's most celebrated golf course, the Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, site of the PGA Tour's Hawaiian Open. The tournament will be preceded by registration which will begin at 10 a.m. and luncheon at noon. The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Immediately following golf, prizes will be awarded at an Awards Pu Pu in the oceanfront Waialae Clubhouse.

During the first week of May each year, large amounts of dolphins gather in the Indonesian waters, swimming in a gigantic wheel or spiral pattern. No one knows exactly why this happens. WAIKIKI ARTFEST

The Waikiki Artfest is located in Kapiolani Park directly across from the Honolulu Zoo at the Diamond Head end of Waikiki. The event is scheduled from 9am to 4 pm both Saturday and Sunday, and admission is free. They feature the art and handcrafted work of more than 75 Hawaii artists, including all types of jewelry, fine art, clothing, ceramics, wood products, soaps and candles, quilts and bags. All products are displayed for sale by the artist personally. They have great food and live entertainment throughout the weekend. |
